Mayor backtracks on claim investor accessed medical records

This claim was previously made by Obrenovac Mayor Miroslav Cuckovic, who, speaking for the Insajder website, said the company "analyzed all 55,000 medical records" in the municipality.

Sabic carried out "a process of control," pursuant to the Law on Protection of Personal Data, and said in a report published on his website that Cuckovic explained he got "carried away" when he made the original statement.

Cuckovic also said he made the statement "recklessly, that is, irresponsibly," Sabic reported, adding that in reality, no violation of citizens' right to protection of their personal data had occurred.

Cuckovic further stated that he was "very sorry that his statement was misunderstood," and "stressed under full moral, material, and criminal responsibility that no processing of personal data of any Obrenovac resident ever took place in the concrete case."

Sabic's report details the control procedure carried out at the Health Care Center in Obrenovac, which concerns both electronic and hard copies of medical records. Considering that he found that no violations of the law had taken place, the commissioner advised Cuckovic to apologize to both citizens and medical sector employees in Obrenovac.
