Serbian delegation in Minsk in bid to boost economic ties

During a meeting he had with Trade Minister Vladimir Koltovich, Sertic said it would be good if the friendly relationship between Belarus and Serbia were accompanied by stronger economic relations.

Sertic told Koltovich that serious reforms had been carried out in Serbia over the previous two years and that, regardless of them, Serbia had ended 2015 with positive economic growth.

Koltovich said that the economic crisis "had an impact on many countries, but we had to do whatever we could to overcome the problems" adding there was a number of projects and proposals for joint production of agricultural machinery.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Serbian Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Telecommunications and President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Cadez.

Sertic also met with the Deputy Minister of Industry Korchik Dmitry Alexandrovich.

A ninth meeting of the Serbia-Belarus intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation will be held in Minsk tomorrow.

Businesses from Serbia are interested in the cooperation with Belarusian companies and expansion in the market, and the governments of the two countries will do everything to help them in that, it was said in a meeting of the business council of the chambers of commerce of Serbia and Belarus.

Over 100 businesspeople and agricultural producers - representatives of around 40 firms from Serbia are taking part in the business forum and bilateral talks with representatives of Belarusian companies on Tuesday and Wednesday, in an effort to establish and improve the cooperation.

On Monday, the economic delegation led by Zeljko Sertic first visited a construction site, where the minister laid a cornerstone for the complex named after Serbia's famous painter Paja Jovanovic.

The project is worth more than EUR 3.5 billion and engages over 200 engineers.
