Croatia sends 217 "economic migrants" back to Serbia

Croatia has sent a group of 217 economic migrants - that UNHCR said are mostly Afghanis, Iraqis, along with a small number of Syrians - back to Serbia.

Croatia sends 217 "economic migrants" back to Serbia

She said the persons in question "are not refugees from war-affected areas."

According to Popovic-Ivkovic "so far no economic migrants have remained in Serbia and as a rule, they do not seek asylum here."

"As many as enter Serbia, as a rule, also leave our country," she said.

Croatia returned the 217 migrants to Serbia by train last night and they are currently in the reception center in Sid, UNHCR representative Mirjana Milenkovski told Tanjug earlier in the day, adding that this group was sent back to Croatia from Slovenia last weekend.
