Ex-PM, now opposition party leader undergoes routine surgery

Earlier in the day, media reported that Zivkovic's condition was life-threatening, but the party said their leader had a routine operation related to his gallbladder.

Zivkovic feels well and is recovering, the party said.

He on Thursday posted a greeting to his friends on Twitter.

From March 2003 until March 2004 Zivkovic served as Serbia's prime minister, and was also the leader of the Democratic Party (DS) until February 2004, when Boris Tadic was elected to that position.

Zivkovic has led the New Party since April 2013 and is a member of Serbia's National Assembly.
