Russia accused of using cluster bombs in Syria

AI said there were reports to this effect, and that they focused on six attacks in the province of Homs, Idlib and Aleppo in September and November when at least 200 civilians were killed."

Also, the organization said it was "shameful" that Russia "does not want to acknowledge civilian casualties."

"Some Russian attacks seem to have been directly targeted towards civilians and civilian objects. Populated areas in which there is no trace of military targets have been attacked. Even medical institutions have been targeted, which led to the death and injury of civilians. Such attacks can be characterized as war crimes," said program director of Amnesty International Middle East and North Africa Program Philip Luther.

Such accusations against Moscow came on immediately after a report released by Human Rights Watch, that said cluster bombs were used at least 20 times in Syria since the start of Russia's operation.

However, Russian officials immediately denied such allegations, as did some civilian sources and opposition activists in Syria, who said that such attacks "might have been committed by the Syrian Army."
