According to the Times, "around half of the 700 Britons thought to have traveled to Syria and Iraq to support jihadist organizations have since returned - some are being monitored, while others have been referred for action under Prevent, the counter-extremism strategy."

Spain's security minister Francisco Martinez said last week that "these young men are so quickly converted to support Islamic State, and in a few weeks they become fanatics. They go to war zones or they stay where they live and act like lone wolves."

IS extremists have a wide internet recruitment network used to recruit not only men but children-warriors, as well as teenagers.
