"Vucic must face truth about genocide"

"I think the prime minister of Serbia when he travels to Srebrenica, will be faced with shamiyas (scarves) of the mothers, wives and daughters of people who were killed in the genocide committed by Bosnian Serb forces, who had the support, of course, at the time of the Serbian government. Of course, my hope would be that these shamiyas, these screams, the pain will reach out to him and influence him to change course," Samantha Powers has been quoted as saying, when asked by the paper "what her message to Vucic would be."

She said that the denial of genocide in Srebrenica is simply incompatible with reconciliation.

"Because, while Vucic is talking about the importance of reconciliation, and he is right to talk about the importance of reconciliation, you cannot build reconciliation on account of genocide denial. It is not compatible. So, it is important that he goes there and it is important that he sees for himself the results and the destruction caused by the genocide in Srebrenica," said Powers.

In response to the failure of a British draft resolution on the Srebrenica in the UN - vetoed by Russia, the U.S. embassy in Bosnia-Herzegovina announced that it strongly shared the opinions and feelings expressed in her speech by Ambassador Powers, the paper said.

The embassy said that the mood in the U.S. government and the international community was equally affected by the decision of Russia to veto.

They point out that the failure to adopt the resolution in no way diminished the U.S. determination to honor the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and their families.

"The U.S. Congress has done just that unanimously adopting a resolution that confirms that genocide occurred in Srebrenica, condemns those who deny it and pays tribute to the victims. Several states adopted a similar resolution during the last couple of weeks that show that we, in the United States, fully accept the verdict of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, which stated that what happened 20 years ago in Srebrenica was genocide and that, in our opinion, has enough was done to prevent it," the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo said, according to Dnevni Avaz.
