"21,000 Roma IDPs live in poverty"

The study, prepared by Slobodan Cvejic, shows that less than half of the internally displaced Roma have their own residential buildings, while one third of them live in buildings not intended for housing.

Presenting his study, "Assessment of the Needs of Internally Displaced Persons in Serbia", Cvejic said it was based on a poll conducted by CeSID in about 800 internally displaced Roma households and 400 domicile Roma households in their immediate neighborhood.

“Both samples were collected in a total of 18 municipalities in Serbia, in which we have either medium or high concentration of internally displaced Roma,” Cvejic said.

These persons are largely unable to access social services due to their lacking basic personal documents, he said.
