1. j - What you believe in, or don't believe in is your business. I have no problem with that. But you show your insecurity when you make fun of Christianity. If making fun of someone else's beliefs makes you feel better about yourself, have at it. I find it quite sad. I've noticed your fellow athiest, Nikolle, finds it necessary to degrade Christianity also. Again, sad.

Regarding my visiting Albania, no I have never been there. And why would I? I have no family there and last time I checked it wasn't one of Europe's leading tourist destinations. I have been to Kosovo and the oldest visible culture there is Serbian. Even as the Albanians try to burn and destry world heritage sites of Serb churches and monestaries.

Yoiur comments about people living in present-day Albania 9000 years ago proves nothing. This doesn't mean they were Albanian. There were people living in present-day Serbia prior to the Serbs getting there also. Alexander the Great lived in present-day Macedonia. This didn't make him the same ethnicity as present-day Macedonians who are slavs and not Greek. The Romans inhabhited present-day Italy, but that doesn't make them Italian. I could go on and on. Your rational falls far short of the mark.

My original point was that Albanians assimilated with every occupier throughout their history. By doing so, they embraced the occupiers culture and didn't build their own. That is why you sttruggle to convince me that an ancient Albanian culture exists. Keep trying.

Honestly, i'm not surprised of what you have wrote. A lot of Serbs even don't know Albania have a maritime border, imagine the rest. In Albania you will find a lot of heritage culture since the Ilirycum time till today Njegos,,, you're welcome.
You probably don't know as well Albania because was a "closed" country for to much time, and for this fact a lot of history have been distorted, and i'm sorry for that..
I have nothing against Serbs, but i will accept this from Greeks and Italians... But from Serbs..."Not".
Hellens and Romans have one of the most glorious history of the antique world, and of course we were influenced from their art and architecture and we are not the only one.
And this njegos, is not assimilation is development....
The humanity is developed by assimilation of the art, architecture, militarily etc..
We still today assimilate technology, architecture, art, music but that don't make us lose our identity..
I even know city with German architecture, but that don't mean it is German.. Or not?
Yes, is fact that Serbia created his country before Albanians and Greeks too, probably because it was a "vital" matter for Serbs, and not for Albanians and Greeks.
    But, what that mean please?
These country did not exist before??
Sorry, but this is not a valid argument..

--But of course. I'm an atheist.I'm behind that choice a 100% of the time. This is the life we have. I choose to have an easier life now. The one I can actually live rather than imaginary one that some dude in a cave 2000 years ago promised it lies somewhere in the sky. And if I can make a stupid claim to live a better life then sure, why not. I know who I am so whatever religious label one puts on me, matters very little. There are many like me, and much more of the agnostic kind where labels don't mean squat. This is your average Albanian when it comes to religion.

-- Lack of visible culture depends solely on whether or not you want to look. When was the last time you were in Albania? Let me know, I can show you around Pelion. That region and in the vicinity of Maliq. People were living there 9000 years ago. You've been raised with that spirit of denial. Deny that Albanians have been around for quite a while, deny that they have ever done anything good, deny that they are normal, that they sing, dance, write, and record these rituals. Its a Serbian thing. I don't blame you personally. It stems from a megalomanic and hegemonic politics, from when Durres was claimed as the heart of Serbia. The tactics have remained the same, only the words have been cosmetically altered.

  5. Sorry njegos but todays bosniak muslims converted from bosnian heretic church to islam about the same time as some converted to orthodox and earlier catholic church. You can find all kinds of quotes by bosniak catholics and orthodox mentioning their bosniak identity with pride. I'm sure bosniak muslims prefer them over serbs. Sadly today many bosniak christians wrongly identify as serbs and croats but that will change as it was only because of serb propaganda. Your statement of identifying bosniaks as serbs has destroyed your credibility. Truth is bosniaks would favor albanians over serbs any day and are more related. This is of course a result of your actions.

  7. J - You miss the point entirely (not surprising). I really don't care what religion Albanians subscribe to, or don't subscribe to, as is the case with you. I'm not here to tell anyone my religion is better than theirs or what they believe in. I am pointing out the fact that Albanians converted in masse to their occupier's religions not because they suddenly found more virtue in a new religion, but rather to lead easier lives. This seems fine with you or even preferable based on what you've stated.

Choosing that path throughout history has its consequences, however. A lack of a visible and tangible culture in the areas that Albanians inhabit is glaring. And your comments about ancient Albanian being spoken in some remote villages falls far short of the mark.

If Albanians are Europe's oldest ethnic group, as many Albanians claim, your people have very little to show for it. No country of your own until 1912. No ancient kingdom, no regional or world power, no real imprint on history whatsoever. And please don't tell me that Albanians were descendants of the Ilyrians. No reputable historian has ever made that claim. For being around so long, you have very little to show for it.

That's not surprising when you assimilate. You forfeit what was yours in favor of living an easier life. You seem to be OK with that J. Now after centuries of existing in the Balkans you have nothing to show for it. Nice legacy J, you have so much to be proud of.

  8. njegos,
Pay attention, assimilation mean lose the 'IDENTITY', not the religion.
    People must lose 'the faith'....
Albanians were Cath. and Orthx because both came in Albania more or les in the same time.
Start the Ottoman period and Albanian resist up to Gj.Kastrioti death being supported from Venice.
Fact is that mostly of the population in south Albania don't change the religion. Albanian population was supported from orth. Cleric and do it for 500 years. Till today the south beginig from Pogradeci, Korca, Berat , Elbasan, 1/2 Vlora, end to Saranda, Gjirokastra majority Orthx. Fact!!!
After the fall of Scutari the Catholic center in Albania, Venite don't try to support Albanian catholic people and Albanian nobles who asked several time for help, let them in the hand of Turks. Fact!!
And fact is that mostly Cath. don't haveing any support for 500 years get lost and 'lose the faith' and being in Midle Age, and haveing present the Turks methods they start to believe in muslim religion. Just the north today is Catholic majority.
Albania today have different religions, and her own identity, culture, linguage different from all her neighbors.

  9. @njegos, Albanians generally don't give a $h!t about religion or your imaginary friend in the sky. That is the pattern. As you clearly state all the occupiers brought their own religions.Since it was their own religion what does it matter that we never stuck to one particular occupier's religion vs the other. Its even more stupid when somehow you see some sort of virtue in sticking to one religion originating from the middle east 2000 years ago vs. that other religion originating in the middle east 2000 years ago. They are both anachronistic dogma. These people have been slaughtering each other for 2000 years over this crap, yet you see virtue in it.
I'll claim any religion you want if it gets me away from this 40% tax bracket I'm in now.Its brutal seeing almost half of your money gone. I don't give two $h!ts about it.

Go visit Albania for ancient towns. Also check Bardhyli, who he was, what he did and the etymology. I have more names.

Sicily, Ukraine. Medieval Albanian is still being spoken in villages there.

Lastly- every nation in the world has gone through some form of assimilation, Serbia included. Only a fool can claim the opposite. Nationalism is an 18th century invention.

  10. Joni, read very closely and pay attention. Here are some facts for you:
    - Approximately 80% of all Albanians are Muslim, the other 20% are split between Orthodoxy and Catholicism. The 80% converted from Orthodoxy or Catholicism during the Ottoman occupation to make their lives easier. They gave up their religion and took on their occupiers religion to make their lives easier. They assimilated.

    - Many Albanians today who live in the former Yugoslavia still have last names that end in ic or ich. They took on these suffixes to assimilate with the majority. Many were originally Catholic and became Orthodox because they wanted to be like the majority. They assimilated because it was the easy thing to do.

    - When Venice ruled much of the Adriatic coast Albanians converted from Orthodoxy to Catholicism to join the majority and make their lives easier.

Do you see the pattern here Joni. Albanians joined whoever the occupier was at the time to make their lives easier. No resistance. Thus you have no evidence of an ancient Albanian culture and civilization anywhere because they adopted and assimilated to the culture of their occupiers.

Now, to be fair, Serbs converted to Islam during 500 years of Ottoman rule as well. Much of them makeup today's Bosniaks. But they were a distinct minority. The overwhelming majority kept their religion and culture in the face of great adversity.

Sorry Joni as much as you may not like it, those are the facts.

During the Ottoman Empire and during Nazi Germany. How can you defeat the Serbian state in an armed conflict when you lost against 4 Serbian municipalities in the north of Kosovo-Metohija when they lacked the support of even Belgrade? And now you want even more land from Serbia plus Montenegro, Macedonia and Greece for your Nazi Albania project? Impossible.

For now, I think you are (middle) managing Kosovo-Metohija beautifully. I would not want Kosovo-Metohija today to be the burden of Serbia, I would rather have the Pristina institutions bleed itself dry as they have been doing [link] You can try to rationalize it, but 100,000 people leave central Serbia & Vojvodina in a handle of years out of a population of 8 million. 100,000 in 2 months out of a population of 1.3 million is a catastrophe of epic proportions.

My take on this matter is that the Serbs who insist that Kosovo is void of independence, still regarded as a province of Serbia and don't want to relinquish control of Kosovo should "cut their losses" by accepting it that Kosovo along with a numerous amount of nations decree it to be sovereign and move on,in fact, shouldn't citizens and the government of Serbia focus more on how to improve the Serb economy, after all it's paramount and prudent for citizens and politicians of a sovereign nation to stabilize or balance their economies.Just a suggestion or words of advice.

Whats the most important thing is that Kosovo and Albania have and continue getting closer to each other, day by day in all fields, economy, education, security, tourism ect and together are and will be a greater factor in the region. That sure does hurt serbs feelings but there is nothing you or anyone else can do to stop it. Nada.

That's precisely why I support some kind of union, however loose, in the western Balkans as a way to defend what the people of the region have in common and to ensure that both inside and outside forces do not upset its peace.

The nationalism you refer to exists among every group and not just Serbs.

What chance??? Are you kidding me? I read similar comments from you and your buddies Daniel, Ari Gold and the rest. You all seem to crave another war so you can get rid of the Albanians from Kosovo. Let me enlighten you my friend!

Your country did try that, in the late 90s and you saw were that led you to. And that happened in a time when Albania proper was on a brink of a civil war, unable to fully assist and Albanians of Kosovo could only fight a guerrilla war. In addition Belgrade was in control of almost the entire Yugo Army and you still lost. You really think you can do better with a smaller army against a NATO member and Kosovo State? Think about it. And please don't even mention things like Albania without NATO wouldn't stand a chance, because Serbia without the support of Russia probably wouldn't even exist these days. Point is all wars are fought with allies, we just played a smarter game.

You all say Kosovo is and will always be Serbia and all that, question is: Is it really? You all now the answer to that. Its a reality, it is long gone and even though it must hurt, you cant do anything about it.

Kosovo getting closer to Albania and uniting is only natural and there is no force in the world to stop that. That must hurt even more; you wanna go to war over that? Knock your self out and we shall see the outcome.

  26. I don't get the Serbs. They are ready to sell their souls to the devil just to isolate Kosova. You think this policy of isolation, and let's call it for what it is- pure hatred, has no consequences? Look around you. Who would Kosova go to in order to break this isolation? Who has the same language, the same customs, the same culture? Kosova will not come to you with open arms when all you are trying to do is to cause as much damage to its people as possible, through isolation. Instead they will go the complete opposite way. Serbia with its policies has done more than everyone else to integrate and push Kosova towards Albania. So the choices are quite simple. Either all of us join a united Europe, unite with each other and get rid of the borders, or Serbia continues its schizophrenic policies of causing as much harm to Kosova as possible, in which case the way to counteract them is to remove the borders with Albania and gain access to ports, airport, trade etc. that way. Rama is not wrong. We know we have a lot to do on our own but Europe has to show us that a united Europe is the better choice and that Serbia's isolationist policies have no place in this family of nations. They have to make the peoples of the Balkans feel that this choice is achievable and we all can make progress towards it. Only this will nullify the other less desirable choice. Only this way will Kosova be the best place for all.

    (TP, 7 April 2015 14:39)

    TP,
After almost 50 years, as you proudly proclaim, you've learned almost nothing of the language and culture of former Yugoslavia. People identify with who they think they are and not necessarily who they are genetically. Why do many Serbs resemble Albanians. Cross breeding after all these centuries has made them indistinguishable. However, assimilation through politics along with brainwashing by the Serbian Orthodox church have made many people believe the lies forced on them concerning their identity. "Outside" powers could not have achieved this. Certainly, the Ottomans did not attempt to assimilate their subjects. In fact, many Serbs and others served as high officials of the Ottoman empire, yet they were allowed to maintain their ethnic identity. It was not until the 18th century that nationalism reared its ugly head in Serbia, thus causing every other ethnic group to fend for itself. So you see TP, you must learn to read between the lies taught to you and study unbiased history written by scholars and not the village idiot of some Serb village.

They have no problem helping Albanian nationalist goals when it's at Serbia's expense, but they don't want a bunch of them to have free access to move into Western Europe whenever it wants. It treats Kosovo-Metohija like a prison in that regard, begging Serbia to help keep the Albanians contained during the most recent exodus.

But I hope Greater Albania is a path they take. FYR Macedonia is key. If the savages start causing more trouble there, a regional war may be on its way.

Maybe the Albanians are schizophrenic. On one hand they want to steal everyone's land, on the other they want to leave the Balkans altogether. 100,000 in a matter of 2 months have fled the newborn republjik.

  35. I didn't know it was election season in Albania. This type of idiotic jingoism usually comes out around that time.

  37. The good thing about PM Rama is that he is Orthodox Christian and Serbs can not attack him like they did with Berisha.

Serbs can not understand Albanians.Calling Albanians "Muslim or Turks"in derogatory manner, they don't know that Orthodox and Catholic Albanians are as Albanian as Muslim ones.

Here is an Orthodox Albanian calling for unification of Albania and Kosovo.
Brw if Serbia continues to block Kosovo every chance they have, they are pushing Kosovo toward Albania.

Before Serbs start attacking verbally their neighbors they better start knowing them first.

In 1995 less than 10% of Albanians in Albania were for unification.
Today thanks to Serbia behavior more than 80% of Albanians in Albania are for unification.
Thank you Serbia for helping Albanians!

  39. Perhaps there needs to be something like another Congress of Berlin, or Vienna and Versailles to finally determine borders throughout Europe.

The problem is that these all came after bloody wars or other forms of turmoil in Europe.

There are disputed borders all over Europe, many of which emerged after the end of the Cold War.

In the Balkans I think that Albania and (most, but not all, of) Kosovo could unite.

By the same token, however, so should Serbia, Montenegro and much of the 'Srpska' entity in BiH, also with much of western, and a couple of northern municipalities of Bosnia going to Croatia, leaving a Muslim state roughly the size of Slovenia in the centre.

For me, though, the real resolution would come with the reunificiation, perhaps on a loose, confederal basis, of at least the Serbo-Croatian speaking areas of former Yugoslavia.

This is because, after almost half a century of association with the region and a reasonable knowledge of the language and culture, I still can't see any major differences between Croats, Serbs and Bosniacs except for the artificial hatred engendred in them by self-serving outside powers.

  40. Mr. Rama, opening up roads to integration? Hell, look at your previous masters in Turkey, those roads to eu integration have been open to Turkey for decades and just like you admitted to nato in order to fight for eu but no membership to eu.

  41. By the time Rama's dream comes true, Kosovo Albanians will be spread all over Europe, assimilating into other regions and countries just as they've done throughout their history. This s why there is no evidence of an ancient Albanian civilization and culture in Kosovo today. This is why Albanians are Muslim, Catholic and Orthodox. This is why Albanians are fleeing Kosovo today. They are a nomadic people. They've never governed themselves and are ill-equipped to manage a civil society in the modern world. The closet they came to this was Enver Hoxha's rule in Albania. And look at the results there. Need I say more?
