"Number of illegal migrants considerably lower"

Stefanovic made the statement at a news conference at the Palace of Serbia, after signing several cooperation agreements with his Austrian and Hungarian counterparts, the Beta news agency reported.

He said that the agreements envisaged facilitation of activities coordinated with Hungary and Austria and readmission in line with Serbia's existing regulations and agreements with the EU.

Austrian Interior Minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner said that over the past few weeks, the number of asylum seekers from Kosovo "has increased considerably" and that organizers of human trafficking, driven by profit, had given false promises to people that they would be able to access labor markets the moment they applied for asylum.

She thanked Serbia and Stefanovic on oral assurance that the return of Kosovo Albanians would also be organized by buses, and not only by charter flights, which had been the case thus far.

The Austrian minister also said that all police directors would meet on March 3, to discuss curbing organized human trafficking.

Hungarian Interior Minister Sandor Pinter said the agreement with Serbia facilitated "easier crossing of people from Hungary to Serbia," adding that details of the agreement would be agreed by police directors.
