Member of DS party presidency detained, then released

A member of the Democratic Party (DS) presidency and vice-president of the Assembly of Vojvodina, Milivoj Vrebalov, was detained on Monday.

Member of DS party presidency detained, then released

This has been announced by the party - ruling in Vojvodina, in opposition at the state level.

The prosecutor previously asked for this measure, citing the possibility of Vrebalov influencing the witnesses.

Vrebalov was detained and questioned in connection to a 2011 project to repurpose the Hertelendy Castle in Novi Becej to be used as a facility for children with developmental disorders.

The project was financed from the Fund for Capital Investments of Vojvodina, but was never finished.

At the time, Vrebalov served as the mayor of the town of Novi Becej. He told the media in the past that the municipality had sued a contractor for failure to finalize the job.

The contractor was the Gardi company, whose owner, Igor R., was also detained and then released on Monday.

Two more persons - Stojan S. and Zoran J., both from the IBS company that supervised the works - were also detained and then released.
