The starting points for Serbia's national security are the pro-EU foreign policy and improvement in cooperation with the most influential actors of the international community and states in the region, Gašić said at the Xiangshan Forum, the prestigious science conference held in Beijing.

During the conference, which was declared open by Chinese Minister of National Defense General Chang Wanquan, Gašić, noted that South-Eastern Europe has major geostrategic importance and potential.

Because of that, the states in that part of Europe bear direct responsibility for making this area safe.

“Reaching the needed level of security is a key prerequisite for integrating the region into the global security network. It is Serbia's stand that the main threats to regional, but also international security are terrorism, cross-border crime, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, corruption and drug trafficking,” Gašić said.

Thanking China for hospitality, the Serbian defense minister underscored that he is satisfied with the talks that he had during his visit to China.

“The extraordinary results of the modernization process this wonderful country prove what China represents today in international relations. At the same time, they confirm in the best possible way that the Serbian leadership were right when they decided to build a strategic partnership with China, and make China one of the four pillars of Serbia's foreign policy,” Gašić concluded.
