Hungarian party to sign coalition deal next week

In a statement to the press following a consultation meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić, Pastor said that he told the president the SVM is willing to take part in the ruling majority.

“It is good for the party, the Hungarian community, and for Serbia for the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians to be part of the ruling majority,” said Pastor.

Asked by reporters whether the coalition with the SNS was "the beginning of the destruction of the current (provincial) government in Vojvodina" - where the party is in alliance with the Democrats (DS) - Pastor said that SVM "only builds partnerships and does not want to be taking down anybody."

"At the moment, I do not see any new element that should make one think seriously about early provincial elections in Vojvodina," Pastor said.

He added that the situation in Vojvodina was "quite delicate" and that "a lot depends on what will be taking place within the Democratic Party."
