Former Minister Saša Dragin and CES Mecon consultancy owner Zvonimir Nikezić have pleaded not guilty to charges of financial abuses.

Dragin, who served as agriculture minister in the Democratic Party-led government, is accused of abusing office and incurring damages to the factory."I feel innocent and did not commit the crime that I am charged with," he told the court today. When the trial resumes on Wednesday, Dragin is expected to present his defense in detail.
Nikezić, who was released from custody last summer on bail worth a million euros in real estate, also pleaded not guilty, and said that he understood the indictment against him "in the linguistic sense" - but that thought it was "formally and legally baseless and nonsensical."
He believes that the Organized Crime Prosecution "had to individualize the amount of the damage" - rather than charge him with the total sum of EUR 25 million.
"And then the total sum was placed via the state news agency Tanjug," Nikezić said in the courtroom today, in reference to the fact the prosecution announced the details of the indictment via the media, Tanjug included.
Nikezić is charged with abusing office to incite to a crime, for which, if found guilty, the court could send him to jail for ten years. But he said today that "only feeble-minded and minor children can be incited."
The prosecution believes that Dragin and Nikezić devised a method of selling subsidized artificial fertilizers through Azotara, and recommended to "people from Azotara" to sell the product in that way.
The prosecution indicted a total of 42 people in the case, and they all denied any wrongdoing in their brief initial statements before the judges.
