MOSCOW Introduction of the EU standards in the energy sector in Serbia should not affect the agreement on the construction of South Stream between Serbia and Russia. This was said in a statement issued by Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Aleksandr Lukashevic. Russia: Serbia-EU talks will not affect South Stream "This is further supported by the recent statements made by Serbian officials who reiterated that Belgrade is willing to continue the works on the South Stream pipeline in keeping with the adopted plan," he said when asked to comment on the speculation by some foreign media that Serbia's EU accession talks, due to begin in January, may hinder the construction of the South Stream pipeline in the country's territory. He recalled that the project realization, including the territory of Serbia, is going along according to the plans, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on its website. Lukashevich added that he thinks much of the level of cooperation between Serbia and Russia in the South Stream pipeline project based on the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the area of oil and gas from 2008. The project is very important for entire Europe, Lukashevich said and added that its key aim is to ensure extensive and reliable deliveries of Russian gas to consumers in many countries and to reinforce international energy security.
