Serbia and Macedonia set to resolve wheat export dispute The decree limiting the quantity of imports of flour from Serbia will be lifted on September 15. Macedonian Minister of Agriculture Ljupco Dimovski informed Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of External and Internal Trade and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic that the Macedonian government has already launched the procedure to annul the contested decree on limiting imports of wheat and flour from Serbia. Ljajic said he expects that Macedonia will not resort to any more restrictive measures in the future, because it is in the interest of both countries to have free movement of goods. “If we use all the potentials, the volume of trade between Serbia and Macedonia could grow from the present 600 million to one billion euros,” said Ljajic. Macedonia introduced the measure limiting the imports of wheat and flour from Serbia on July 1 to be valid until the end of the year. Under the decree, Macedonian importers have to buy three kilograms of locally produced wheat per one kilogram of imported wheat and buy four kilograms of locally produced wheat per one kilogram of imported flour. At the July 22 meeting of the CEFTA Committee in Belgrade, all CEFTA members urged Macedonia to pledge to abolish the controversial decree in a reasonable time frame of about one and a half months.
