BELGRADE Representatives of protesting road workers have set a deadline of June 10 for the government to start resolving their problems. Otherwise, the protesters warned at the end of their protest rally on Wednesday in front of the government HQ in Belgrade, they would block roads in the whole country. Road workers request solutions by June 10 The representatives of road companies from the Autonomous Trade Union of Road Maintenance Workers of Serbia were received Wednesday by representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the Ministry of Transport and government's Secretary General Veljko Odalovic. The meeting was held in the presence of Director General of Roads of Serbia Zoran Drobnjak. President of the trade union Sonja Vukanovic said that the meeting resulted in an agreement to form a working group made up of the representatives of the trade union, the relevant ministries and Public Enterprise Roads of Serbia (Putevi Srbije), which will determine how much the government owes to road companies and work out a plan for resolving the problems in this sector. Drobnjak said that Public Enterprise Roads of Serbia owes RSD 2.8 billion to road builders and that the government should find a way to resolve this as of June 10. The road maintenance workers requested that the government repays its debt worth RSD 9.7 billion, provides another RSD six billion for road maintenance by the end of the year and that road infrastructure be financed through liquid fuel rates again.
