BELGRADE The U.S. together with AmCham Serbia and the Serbian government, wants to help create a more favorable business climate to attract investors and create jobs. This is according to U.S. Ambassador in Belgrade Michael Kirby. "U.S. wants to help create better business climate" The recent visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Serbia and the region confirms the U.S. commitment in this regard, Kirby said, adding that Kosovo was not the only burning question for Serbia. Kirby on Friday had a meeting with representatives of the biggest foreign and domestic companies in Serbia, members of the AmCham (U.S. Chamber of Commerce), discussing economic opportunities and challenges facing Serbia. Kirby said that one of Serbia's priorities should be membership in the World Trade Organization and made several recommendations to the Serbian government on how change the labor legislation and facilitate the issuance of building permits and investment in technology and infrastructure. Kirby addresses the AmCham gathering on Friday in Belgrade (Beta) "Obama's visit possible in case of progress" Michael Kirby also on Friday that it is difficult to foresee whether U.S. President Barack Obama would ever visit Serbia but the country's tangible step forward it would be a good occasion for this, such as the obtaining of the date for the beginning of the EU talks. Noting that U.S. presidents travel more in their second mandate than in the first one, Kirby stated that an occasion for such a visit would be the improvement of situation in Serbia and the country's tangible progress. We would like to see Serbia get the date of the beginning of EU accession talks because this would imply that some progress was made on the Kosovo issue, he said.
