“Bosnian presidency chairman can only speak for himself”
Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik says that Bosnian Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegović has no right to speak on behalf of the whole country.

BANJA LUKA Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik says that Bosnian Presidency Chairman Bakir Izetbegovic has no right to speak on behalf of the whole country. He stressed that Izetbegovic could only speak for himself or on behalf of Bosniaks (Muslims), whom he represented. “Bosnian presidency chairman can only speak for himself” Dodik underscored that RS citizens agreed with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic’s opinion. Izetbegovic said recently that Nikolic’s statement about “disappearance of Bosnia-Herzegovina” was “sinister”. According to Banja Luka media, Dodik said that Izetbegovic “has no right to put the Serbian people in Bosnia-Herzegovina and in the RS in a context of his political positions, especially when his intention is to worsen the relations with Serbia and its top officials”. “The RS did not choose Izetbegovic, he is not a representative of the RS and he has no right to speak on behalf of the citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina because he is exclusively a Bosniak member of the Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency,” the RS president pointed out. Dodik said that Nikolic did not offend the RS citizens by saying that “Bosnia is slowly disappearing before our eyes”, adding that they agreed with the Serbian president. He believes that Nikolic’s statement is true and that “everybody is aware of it except for the Bosniak political elite”. Izetbegovic has sent an open letter to Nikolic, stressing that such position represents a “rough attack” on Bosnia-Herzegovina and an “offense to its citizens”. He said that he had decided not to participate in a trilateral meeting with Serbian and Turkish presidents because of Nikolic’s statement. The Serbian president’s office has released that Izetbegovic’s claims that he had cancelled the meeting is a misunderstanding and that the meeting was never even supposed to be held. The release adds that Nikolic’s statement could only be interpreted “as an expression of his concern over poor functioning of Bosnia-Herzegovina’s state institutions, which is also an undivided opinion of the entire international community”. During his meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Serbia Michael Kirby on Wednesday Nikolic said that certain politicians were taking his statements out of the context in order to make Serbia’s policy look bad.
