BELGRADE Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Konuzin says Serbia nurtures warm and friendly feelings toward his country, and announced he would end his diplomatic career soon. "I will soon leave (Serbia) because my mandate is over, I am leaving the world of diplomacy," the Russian envoy revealed on Wednesday evening, while he attended the opening of an exhibition of contemporary South African art, hosted at the Russian House in Belgrade. "I am saying farewell to you, and I wish to remember your faces, because throughout my time here I felt the warmth and goodness toward our country (Russia)," he said. On Tuesday, Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic received Konuzin for a farewell visit, while on Wednesday, the diplomat also met with Serbian Parliament Speaker Nebojsa Stefanovic. According to a press release issued by parliament, the two officials stated that "a new era" had started in relations between Serbia and Russia. Konuzin said that the current events in relations between Russia and Serbia were a cause for satisfaction, because presidents Vladimir Putin and Tomislav Nikolic had agreed on priorities in concrete cooperation, at their meeting in Sochi earlier this week. "We are at the start of a new era in our relations, which are becoming relations of strategic partnership in all fields," Konuzin underscored. As for cooperation, Konuzin said that two fields impose themselves as primary ones - cooperation in energy and the declaration of strategic partnership, which was harmonized and which, he hopes, will be adopted after the amendments have been incorporated.
