Speaking ahead of May Day - marked in Serbia as a two-day public holiday - Zoran Mihajlovic added that in the face of the situation they face, "workers will have to fight to preserve their rights". Trade unions disagree over May Day protests Noting that deterioration of workers' rights, brought on in part by the the economic crisis, "led to protests and strikes in many other countries", he at the same time added that the union he represents will not organize any protests on May Day, "since we've had bad experiences in previous years". "The election campaign would hinder the protest, since we do not want it to become a political rally. We want to avoid that," Mihajlovic said. But not all organizations gathering trade unions agree that there should be no May Day protests, and so the United Unions of Serbia Concord, the New Healthcare System Union, and the Police Union of Serbia all announced they would call on their members to rally in downtown Belgrade on Tuesday. They will organize a protest walk that will set off at midday, and have also invited other citizens to join in. Tanjug
