The authorities started evicting 257 families from a shanty town in New Belgrade on Wednesday. Some families will move into housing containers with electricity and running water in five locations in Belgrade, while others will be returned to their hometowns. Authorities start evicting Roma from shanty town Deputy Ombudsman for National Minority Rights Goran Basic and Assistant Mayor Zivorad Andjelkovic are monitoring the eviction process. Basic told Tanjug that his job was to control actions of the public administration and to make sure that human rights were respected. “We have advisers in all five neighborhoods in Belgrade where the people evicted from the unofficial settlement will be moved,” he explained. Andjelkovic said that 450 city employees were helping move the Roma families and that they and their personal belongings would be moved to the new housing containers with the help of 110 trucks and buses. He stressed that the Roma families were being moved from the shanty town so construction works in a nearby street could continue. (Tanjug) Beta Tanjug

Deputy Ombudsman for National Minority Rights Goran Bašić and Assistant Mayor Živorad Anđelković are monitoring the eviction process.Bašić told Tanjug that his job was to control actions of the public administration and to make sure that human rights were respected.
