Serbia and Russia launch joint emergency center

An emergency situations center, established the governments of Russia and Serbia, has been launched on Wednesday in the southern Serbian town of Niš.

An emergency situations center, established the governments of Russia and Serbia, has been launched on Wednesday in the southern Serbian town of Nis. Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and Russian Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov signed the agreement on the establishment of the center, which also marked the official start of its work. Serbia and Russia launch joint emergency center Dacic and Puchkov visited the center's premises at the Nis airport, where a Russian plane with 35 tons of humanitarian aid for Kosovo and Metohija landed earlier on Wednesday. Ahead of today's ceremony, the Serbian minister said that the center, set up to rapidly respond to fires, floods and earthquakes, will have great importance for the citizens both in Serbia and the region. Dacic told journalists that the Nis airport will be soon have aircraft and proper equipment. He noted that in the previous years when fire swept through Serbia, the country had to seek help from the Russian Federation, adding that the new center will enable a much faster reaction. Dacic said that the center was formed by Serbia and Russia, and that upon the decisions of the two countries and other regional states, it will be ready to offer help to Serbia's closest neighbors.
