Kustendorf festival lineup announced

Oscar-winning U.S. actor Benicio Del Toro and French actress Isabelle Huppert will appear as guests at the Kustendorf Film and Music Festival.

Oscar-winning U.S. actor Benicio Del Toro and French actress Isabelle Huppert will appear as guests at the Kustendorf Film and Music Festival. The international festival will take place on Mt. Mokra Gora in western Serbia January 17-23, the festival's founder, film director Emir Kusturica announced at a news conference in Belgrade. Organizers previously announced that most significant films by two prominent directors, Kim Ki-duk from South Korea and Nuri Bilge Ceylan from Turkey - Arirang and Once upon a Time in Anatolia, respectively - would be screened within the Retrospective of Greatness program, while the directors will host a workshop for students afterwards Kusturica also noted that out of 300 films which applied for the competition, 20 films directed by young authors from Belgium, Britain, Estonia, Italy, Canada, Kirgiztan, Macedonia, Mexico, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Russia, the U.S., Serbia, France and Spain will be running for the Golden, Silver and Bronze Egg - the festival's awards. The films will be rated by an international jury comprising Leila Hatami, Iranian actress and winner of the Silver Bear for her role in A Separation, directed by Asghar Farhadi, French producer Pierre Edelman and Serbian actor and producer Zoran Cvijanovic. The Vilko Filac award for best camera will be delivered by world-famous director of photography Martin Shek and renowned Serbian sound editor Svetolik Mica Zajc. In the music program of the festival, the audience will have a chance to hear performances by Palagay from Russia, the Rosenberg Trio from the Netherlands, Stribor and Trovaci from Serbia, Adam Stinga from Moldova, Sonido Gallo Negro from Mexico and the Boban and Marko Markovic Orchestra. Kusturica underscored that for the fifth year in a row, the festival's organizers were "persevering in their desire to spread the idea of film as a culture and to promote motion pictures that meet the criteria of both the audience and critics". According to announcements, the festival will be covered by 20 foreign and 15 local reporters, and Serbian Minister of Culture, Media and Information Society Predrag Markovic stated that the ministry supports the festival "as a high-quality event".
