Serbian, Greek presidents meet

Serbian President Boris Tadic and his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias met in Belgrade on Friday. The two presidents visited restored Nebojsa Tower and agreed that it was exceptionally important for the two countries’ cultural cooperation and friendship. Serbian, Greek presidents meet Tadic stressed that Greek revolutionary and poet Rigas Feraios, who was executed in the Nebojsa Tower, had promoted the ideas of freedom, cooperation and independence of the Balkan peoples and unification of Europe. The Greek president has assessed that restoration of the Nebojsa Tower represented a tribute to Rigas Feraios, his political ideas and sacrifice for the freedom of the Balkan peoples and their cooperation. Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas thanked the Greek government for its donation worth EUR 1.3mn for restoration of the Nebojsa Tower, adding that this was the largest individual donation which Belgrade had receieved for cultural projects.
