BELGRADE -- Serbian Justice Minister Snežana Malović has denied that the arrest warrant for Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci was withdrawn.

"The international arrest warrant that Serbia put out for Thaci is still in effect. The cancelation order can only come from the Justice Ministry and we have not given nor will we give such an order, until the court notifies us it has canceled its warrant and is no longer looking for Thaci," she was quoted as saying.
Interpol headquarters in Lyon refused to issue a red notice, saying that Thaci has diplomatic immunity. In Serbia, the Kosovo PM is wanted to serve a ten-year prison sentence for terrorism.
“Genocide was added to the charges in 2003,” the justice minister repeated.
She said the Serbian judicial bodies had conducted preliminary investigations into the case and offered full cooperation to Council of Europe Rapporteur Dick Marty.
"I would like to remind you that one victim has been identified, that we have been collecting data and evidence continually since 1999, and that the War Crimes Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case. I am convinced the Serbian judicial system will continue to do a professional job, bearing in mind that the investigation into this case is of outmost importance both for the international community and for Serbia and it needs to be conducted to the end," Malović pointed out.
She believes that the case could be a test for the international community and that everything should be done in order to establish full cooperation because it is necessary to determine the truth.
“Such monstrous act must not go uninvestigated and perpetrators, if found, need to be appropriately punished,” the justice minister explained.
When asked whether the Justice Ministry has answered the EC questionnaire, she said that the ministry had seriously approached the questionnaire and that “the job will be finished soon”.
“European integration is a goal that Serbia will not give up on. I expect that we will get the EU candidate status in 2011. The Serbian government is making maximum effort in order to achieve that and we are aware that prerequisite for that is completion of cooperation with the Hague Tribunal,” Malović pointed out.
When asked about the information that a former state official had offered information about Ratko Mladić to Carla Del Ponte in exchange for EUR 2.5mn, she said that she was convinced that the competent authorities were investigating those allegations.
“If it is true that there was such an offer, it contains elements of a criminal act and I believe, if it is proven to be right, that the competent bodies will adequately react,” the justice minister was quoted as saying.
Why should EU, US, Russia, China or anybody else abide by Serbia's legal system ?!!!
(icj1, 2 January 2011 07:10)
===…==
Then why should Serbia abide by their system also?
Forget Hague. Give them the finger and let's all ignore each other.
There is such a thing as respect for the law irrespective where. Who cares about extradition treaties then. Let's just barge in, all guns blazing and settle the score according to the law of the mightiest army.
This sound fare to you?

In other words its not so much about whether the Serbian legal system is taken seriously. Its about whether there is political will in the EU (and US) to abide by that system.

Put an award on the capture of this guy, as you did for another war crimes suspect, Mladic, and I'll go and capture him
LOL

It is nice to see how many Serbs seem to think that this unproven rumor washes away all the sins committed that were committed toward the Kosovo people. I know God is not going to reward.

Nobody is saying that any crime washes away another crimes. Where did you read that?
But you seem to think that just because Serbs committed crimes too that the Albanians should be let off the hook for their crimes, don't you?
Let all crimes be punished.
Not Albnian as well.
(Peggy, 31 December 2010 23:31)
Thaci was/is a thug, but I don't think he was really involved in the kidnapped/prisoner Serbs and organ trafficking. One of Haradinaj's brothers or Ceku's I remember being fingered as heavily involved in the illegal prisons for Serb captives, some of which were later transferred to Albania, from whence they disappeared.

Talk about building a strawman - "if perpetrators are found they should be punished" - of course noone will argue against this. The real question is where is the evidence, the point being that there is none - even the Marty report struggled on this issue.
The whispering campaign is premised on the notion that if you repeat something often enough, it will resonate some sense of authenticty.
But you won't see this issue appear in a functional court of law because the rumours would be dismantled for the self-serving assignations they are - the Serb myth that Dubrovnik heritage sites were not bombed, and if they were, it was because the Croats were staging atatcks from there (Prosecutor v Strugar ICTY); or the Serb argument that Sarajevans bombed themselves re Markale massacre (Galenovic case and currently in the Karadzic case @ the ICTY).
It is this continual denial of war crimes, projection of responsibility and cultivation of a self-serving matyr complex that facilitated the Serbian state sponsored genocide in Bosnia. It is Serbs and Serbia's interest to promote transparency and to de-politices the judiciary, otherwise Serbia will not be allowed in the EU, and there will be plenty more humilitating episodes such as the Ganic extradition attempt, where a foreign court found the Serbian state prosecutor's request was politically motivated.

It is nice to see how many Albanians are hurrying to burden their souls by commenting and thus taking personal part and responsibility in the most horrible crimes ever committed.
I don't think that Allah will reward and justify that.

I envy Thaci, i always wanted an arrest warrant in Serbia. One of those things in life that are priceless. For all the rest is mastercard.

Am I under international warrant for writing a comment against Serbia?Hey you never know with this democratic state of Serbia chosen from democratic people of Serbia.

These guys are all a joke. They think that Thaci is afraid...and weakening its position during the expected negotiations which I believe it will a waste of time until Serbia recognises Kosovo independence.

I’m going to ask Albanian courts to issue charges for Tadic and company .Any one can ask if I have the right to do so.IF Serbia can charge why not us .Best wishes.Nino

Actually probably not better to have said that Thaci would be in deep trouble after these latest allegations from the COE if he was not Prime Minister elect and tried to travel abroad.

Interesting Interpol must recognize Kosovo as a "Head of State"
Also why would Serbia need an international warrant for someone walking freely in its own province??
At least Mladic is being semi-hidden from authorities but Thaci is walking the streets meeting with other heads of state. Why can the Serbian police not just show up at one of these public functions and arrest him.
Oh, thats right 1244 severed any control Serbia has over Kosovo territory.

Your revisionist attitudes about history not taking you far, is it?
Ps: Thaci has been to many places where the "warrant" could be used, but why are is everybody toying with Serbs as kids?
