A security Supervisor at Sremska Mitrovica, north fo Belgrade, was arrested under suspicion that he took bribes. The suspect was identified as GoranM. Five others, suspected of embezzlement, were also arrested in the same operation, it has been announced. The prosecution believes they were taking money from convicts in order to move them to “better cells”. Serbian police, MUP, have announced that from 2007 until 2009, Goran M. requested EUR 6,000 in bribes from two prisoners, and that he received received EUR 2,000. During 2007 and 2008 the other five suspects contacted five inmates through their families and friends, falsely promised them transfer from the closed to the semi-closed part of the prison, and requested and received a total of EUR 27,500 for their services. Criminal charges will be filed against the suspects and they will be taken to the investigative judge of the Municipal and Higher Court in Sremska Mitrovica, it has been announced.
