The commission for uncovering secret gravesites with the bodies of people killed after September 12, 1944, has begun working in Zajecar. According to historian Momcilo Pavlovic, who is the secretary of the commission, some of the first mass executions after World War II occurred in Zajecar. Almost all public persons of that time were proclaimed enemies of the state. At the place where the Zajecar Primary Court now stands, there was a central prison after World War II, from which witnesses say that about 200 people were taken to be executed. In between 1944 and 1946, about 800 people were killed in the region of Zajecar. The symbolically marked mass grave since on Kraljevica hill will be the first to be excavated by the commission.
