Opposition SNS leader Tomislav Nikolic says his party was advocating for Serbia to be a pillar of support and not a “tutor” to the Republic of Srpska (RS). “Serbia can help all Serbs who live outside of Serbia. It has a duty and right under the Constitution. RS deserves and expects our help, and not for us to act like some tutor or, God forbid, to say things must be our way,” Nikolic said. Nikolic: Serbia pillar of support for RS He stressed that the SNS position was that Serbian President Boris Tadic cannot sign declaration which could be harmful to RS without the knowledge of the Bosnian Serb entity's officials. “The Istanbul Declaration showed that a new constellation of relations between Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina was in sight, but by appointing Turkey as a mediator between Serbs and Bosniaks (Muslims) without the knowledge of the RS president, Tadic sided with those political currents which want a centralization of Bosnia-Herzegovina with Sarajevo having a dominant position,“ Nikolic stated. He added that Tadic's actions came out of his desire to “endear himself to the EU”. According to Nikolic, the Srebrenica declaration adopted recently by the Serbian parliament was another in a series of Tadic's moves which resulted in deterioration of relations between Serbia and RS. “No declaration coming only from one side can lead to reconciliation in this region,“ Nikolic concluded.
