A well-known former Otpor movement activist from Subotica, Branimir Nikolic, was found dead today in a children’s playground near Lake Palic. The body was discovered after passers-by reported it this morning. Former Otpor activist found dead Police in this northern town said the case was most likely suicide. Nikolic was last seen on Sunday night around midnight at a lakeside café. The Higher Court in Subotica has announced, regarding the case, only that a body of Branimir N., born 1957, was found. The announcement reads that an autopsy was ordered in order to determine all the facts and that there was still no official information about the cause of death. Nikolic a well-known anti-Milosevic regime figure in the 1990s, first as a member of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) and then as he joined Otpor. After October 5, 2000 he was involved in a project where he presented to the public data concerning criminal and other businesses of some public figures. He was sued for slander on several occasions, and served time in prison after he was found guilty in a private lawsuit. Nikolic was living on social security for the last several years.
