“Serbia ready for EC questionnaire”

The Director of the European Integration Office Milica Delević said that Serbia will be ready to quickly answer the European Commission questionnaire.

The Director of the European Integration Office Milica Delevic said that Serbia will be ready to quickly answer the European Commission questionnaire. She said that the speed of the answers will not affect their quality. “Serbia ready for EC questionnaire” “The questionnaire goes with the Feasibility Study, which opened the doors for negotiations for the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), and the opinion of the Commission, (which will follow the questionnaire), will open the doors for membership negotiations,” Delevic told daily Politika. “Essentially, the Feasibility Study and the report on progress and the Commission’s opinion follow one structure which contains the criteria set up in Copenhagen and gives precise guidelines for the stabilization and association process. It is not new to us. Since we don’t expect new conditions, we do not expect any surprising structures or questions in the questionnaire,” Delevic said. She said that the “real work” will begin when the questionnaire arrives, and that “from that moment, the quality and speed of the answers will show Serbia’s capacities.” “Of course, quality answers are most important, in order for the Commission to have a look into what state the country is in and whether the Copenhagen criteria is being fulfilled, along with the obligations of the SAA,” Delevic said. “I really expect that the existing criteria will be checked through one strict process, and that the opinion calls for a detailed checking of the answers, sub-answers, and finally, the additions and finalization before announcing the final opinion of the commission,” she said. Delevic said that the current preparations consist mostly of meetings at which the latest questionnaires are being analyzed, which are the questionnaires that the EC has most recently sent to Montenegro and Albania. “We are aware that it will be a large amount of work. We will use all the existing structures and terminology that has been developed thus far in the translation process. I believe that we will be able to take care of this burden quickly, and that we will be able to use the existing structures when answering the questionnaire,” Delevic said.
