The Croatian government will welcome EU initiatives to broker a resolution in the Slovenian-Croatian border dispute, writes Croatian daily Jutarnji List. However, according to Slovenian media, Croatia will nevertheless append its own opinion on the role of mediators to its acceptance of the plan, meaning that it will continue to expect the dispute to be resolved in an international court. EU to mediate border dispute Croatia will expect the mediator's role to be limited to creating a framework for referring the settlement of the issue to one of the said courts. Croatia’s main argument is that there is no kind of guarantee that Slovenia will accept the results of the mediation, as happened when Slovenia refused the Agreement on Border Traffic and Cooperation solution offered by a mediator. Croatian media added that Zagreb's experiences with Ljubljana on the matter of the former’s NATO accession were also a factor. Meanwhile, NATO Assistant Secretary General Martin Erdman said that there was still concern over the possible referendum in Slovenia on Croatia’s accession to that organization, although NATO is nevertheless optimistic and hopes that Croatia will manage to join the Alliance by the April summit.
