The War Crimes Prosecution Office’s priority is the arrest of the two remaining Hague fugitives, says spokesman Bruno Vekaric . Vekaric told radio B92 about the ongoing investigation into those suspected of helping harbour Radovan Karadzic, adding that the prosecution had the power to try accomplices. "Mladic, Hadzic arrests are priority" The spokesman said that all the capacities of every service were being directed towards the arrest of “Mladic and the Hague fugitives.” He said that War Crimes Prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic had clearly stated that on the basis of his psychological profile, Mladic could be surrounded by heavily armed people, that it was possible that he had not changed his appearance, and that he was probably in Serbia. However, Vukcevic had qualified this, stating that no one could be sure of this, as otherwise, Mladic would already have been arrested by now. Vekaric could not comment on the issue of the fake documents issued to Mladic and Karadzic, because of the ongoing investigation. He said that the possibility that someone could obtain ID cards by bypassing proper procedure was a “relic of the past” and that he was concerned by it. The spokesman confirmed that a prosecution delegation would be visiting Albania in October, following the allegations in former Hague Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte’s book, “The Hunt”, that abducted non-Albanian civilians, hundreds of Serbs and Roma, had been murdered for the purposes of organ harvesting. According to him, a number of people had already given statements, the prosecution was communicating with the families of missing persons and murdered Serbs from Kosovo, and meetings had been held with UNMIK, the Red Cross, and with the Prosecution Offices of the Hague Tribunal and Albania. "The Hague [prosecution] has made it clear that they will entrust the running of the case to us,“ Vekaric said, adding that the Council of Europe had already formed a committee and a team of investigators to deal with the case, adding that a positive response had also been forthcoming from the Albanian chief prosecutor. Vekaric confirmed that there were indications that people had been held captive in camps in Albania, shot dead, and their bodies transferred to other locations. He said that he expected the bodies to be found, along with witnesses, and that the statements collected by the Hague Tribunal would be supplemented. Bruno Vekaric (FoNet, archive)
