1. From the article:

    "Dačić said that the police had been ordered to maintain public order and peace during the protest against the arrest of Radovan Karadzić, and only to intervene if attacked."

    And later:

    "(...) that the police’s role was not to change political factors on Serbia’s political scene."

    When I read such statements, I have to wonder WHY Dačić feels that is necessary to say it at all. Isn't it obvious that that is exactly what a police force is supposed to do? To keep public order and not to attack without due cause? And it is certainly not a job for the police to attempt to change the policy of the state. So why say it at all?
