Cvetkovic on first state visit abroad The gathering organized by the Austrian government and to be hosted by Austrian Chancellor Alfred Guzenbauer, will be devoted to stability in the South-East European region in the 21st century. Cvetkovic will speak with his colleagues about investment in the region, particularly in the energy and transport sectors, as well about joint efforts in tackling climate change. During the meeting, the prime minister will meet with his counterparts form Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Albania, Moldavia, and Romania. The office of the host, Guzenbauer, stated that the fact that Cvetkovic had selected this occasion as his first state visit abroad was a “sign of the special significance of this meeting in Salzburg, and the close relations between the two countries.” The new prime minister’s visit to Vienna is receiving considerable attention since, it is said, the new government’s arrest of Hague fugitive Radovan Karadzic and the decision to return its ambassadors to EU countries have clearly shown a change of course towards greater and more developed integration in the world. This is the seventh such rally in Salzburg. Last year, participants agreed that solving problems in energy policy required a common strategy between all the countries in the region, and they agreed to resume efforts to promote new forms of renewable energy. Speaking of transport, Guzenbauer said that it was necessary to redirect freight traffic from roads to railways and the Danube. Mirko Cvetkovic (FoNet, archive)
