The leader of the Hungarian Coalition on Monday confirmed that this political group will not take part in Serbia's new cabinet. Istvan Pastor, who is also the president of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM), explained that although the coalition did not want to join the government, it will be "a stable participant in the parliamentary majority”. Hungarians won't join government “Our position is that at this point, we do not wish to be a part of the government, and not because we have been offered too little, but rather because we do not want to give legitimacy to the policy of the SPS, with which we did not agree in the past either,” he told a news conference in Novi Sad. Pastor added that there were no obstacles whatsoever for the Hungarian Coalition to be part of the parliamentary majority “at the state, as well as the municipal and local level”. Last week, this coalition gathering ethnic Hungarian parties from Vojvodina refused to accept deputy premier without portfolio spot. On Sunday, Pastor said that he was optimistic, and expected his negotiations with the DS coalition to end during this morning. However, Pastor would not reveal what his proposals in these talks were. The Democrats and the five parties in their pre-election coalition, dubbed "For a European Serbia", and the Socialist-led SPS-PUPS-NS are negotiating to form a new government in Serbia.
