BELGRADE -- Vojislav Koštunica says Serbia should have signed the SAA long before the 18 EU countries recognized the unlawful independence of Kosovo.

Koštunica commented on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's statement yesterday that the deal should have been signed earlier by saying that he agreed with this stance.
"Minister Lavrov is right. The SAA is now in a phase when the unilateral declaration of independence took place and when the initialed version of the agreement is contested – annulled by 18 [EU member] states that have recognized Kosovo's unilateral independence," he told an audience of the capital city's businessmen.
Koštunica added that the agreement has to be added to the parliament agenda, because the parliament adopted a resolution last December which explicitly says that every international agreement Serbia signs, the SAA in particular, has to be in the function of preserving the state's integrity and territorial sovereignty.
Koštunica said that the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), signed on Tuesday by his deputy in the caretaker government, Božidar Đelić, DS, "is not in the function of Serbia's territorial integrity."
Koštunica also accused President Boris Tadić's Democrats (DS) of "trying hard to hide their shame behind other people's words, the shame of signing the Solana agreement about Kosovo's independence", and added, "but they will not manage to fool Serbians".
"It is utterly unacceptable for the DS to take the Russian diplomacy chief's words out of context in order to justify their shameful signature on Solana's agreement for Kosovo and Metohija's independence," he said.
"A new government and parliament will immediately annul this anti-Constitutional signature, because Serbia will never recognize Kosovo's independence. And, all the shame and all the responsibility falls on those who signed Solana's agreement," Koštunica concluded.
Your "hard work & blood" can be compared to Al Kaida "suffering"!! Al that was given against Serbia,as you say.ON SERBIAN SOIL??! I'm not your "western partner" with expiry date to be "moved" sentimenally!...All those loses..,for nothing?? EVERYTHING IS "WRITTEN" AND THERE'S NO PLACE FOR : "IF I WAS..."
JB..,
They will stay ALBANIANS,anyway! It's about to justify their presence in SERB KOSOVO!! Croatia,Bosnia..,Serb population...Despite never finished Milosevic doings and damage we suffer because of that..,we never said it will stay like that, including Macedonia.
Serb ally..,thank you! J was eating and drinking with Atamans, giving uniforms to a Greeks and doing most of the job myself. Not to be misunderstood..,there's Slav blood in our veins, sky belongs to a God and (rest) the Earth is for Greeks..Everything else it's relative and playable..Ally...,all the way??!

Zoran, regarding your comment that Johny can't be Serbian forever. Nice point, so are you telling all those 'Serbs' in Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia etc, should give up their 'Serbian-ness', because they are not in Serbia proper? When does one stop being a nationality, is it a state of mind? Or is it because one can carry a document proving nationality?
(JB (Serbian Ally), 3 May 2008 22:48)
Zoran I don't wanna be a Serb. I and my family worked to hard and lost too much blood to cut any ties that had to do with Serbia for me to want to be a Serb. However that does not prevent me from looking at things and issues from different perspectives. I urge you to try it. Its the best way to have a better understanding of those who are trying to harm your future.
(johny, 3 May 2008 22:03)
YOU CANNOT BE SERBIAN,EVER!! Being Serb - thinking Albanian?! That's like Fiat Punto engine in a Scania-truck!! Sorry! Try again! Let's say:"If I was Albanian,to think "Albanian"-even in Albania...,I would apply for Serb passport.." That would be not virtual,at all.
(Zoran Paljevic, 3 May 2008 02:43)
If I was a Serb I would also think the best time to sign SAA would be before Montenegro voted for independence. That way Serbia would be in the EU. Montenegro and Kosova would still be part of the state, and Mladic and Karadjic would be turned in at a time Serbia chose to. It could chose not to turn them until they died or were really sick. That would indeed have been the best moment for Serbia.
However what were the incentives for the EU to do such a thing. I don't think they were any.
First- Once EU agreed to take Serbia in, then Serbia would have no reason whatsoever to collaborate with the Hague, since it already achieved what it wanted, EU.
2. EU and Serbia knew very well that there were going to be negotiations about the status of Kosova, and that neither independence nor autonomy were a done deal. If EU had taken Serbia under its wing, Serbia would have no reason whatsoever to negotiate about a solution that would be acceptable to Albanians.
So the choices for EU were simple. Lets reward Serbia with EU membership even though it started war after war in the space of one decade and does not turn in its war criminals or lets not invite it and use membership as an incentive for Serbia to cooperate and actually engage in negotiations. Obviously the right and logical choice is what EU chose.
Yet the EU is offering Serbia a deal that it might not get again if it is refused by the next government. That is nowhere in the SAA it is mentioned that Serbia has to recognize Kosova if it wants to be in the EU. In case Serbia refuses, and due to this Albania makes it in the EU before Serbia, rest assured that the next SAA will have a text which specifically says that Serbia will have to recognize Kosova if it wants to join.
Of course I hope Kostunica gets re-elected and annuls SAA.
(johny, 3 May 2008 00:44)
There is no point in wasting time and energy in trying to explain to Albanians and others here who constantly bash Koštunica and Serbia in general when they poses the thinking span of a 2 year old. Go ahead in live in your dream world of "Kosova" or whatever you want to call it. In the end you will get exactly what you deserve and give exactly what you owe.

If Eagle (#3) is indeed confused about Kostunica's declaration on SAA, I think I can clarify it for him in Basic English, and -slowly.
Signing the SAA before the recognition of 'Kosova's' udi
would have meant legally respecting Serbia's territorial integrity. Kostunica was always for that.
Signing SAA after the EU recognized 'Kosova's' udi, means that agreement is valid only for what is left of Serbia.
Now ,this should be crystal clear for anyone of good faith and if Eagle still doesn't get it I am prepared to spell this to him in Serbian.
(Peter RV, 2 May 2008 18:53)
Long overdue ? Gospodin Kostunica is the one that declined the SAA when it was offered on the table. The SAA have been offered but rejected by the PM himself since he prefered to be a hero that saves the long lost Kosovo.
(Michael, 2 May 2008 12:18)
Of course SAA should have been signed long time ago! Due to the delay of the EU integration of Serbia has missed the window of opportunity that now is closed. After the adheasion of Europe's "problematic children" Bulgaria and Romania, the EU will keep its door closed for quite a while. Only Croatia will probably somehow sneak in. So instead of being the wealthiest country of the European South East, Serbia chose to take a course that may make it the poorest! And for what? Pride? Is it a proud moment for Serbs to quew for visas, wile their neighbours traval only with ID cards? Kosovo must be recognized not because EU, NATO or whoever desires so, but because the Kosovo Albanians are too many and to different to be absorbed within Serbia's political system. Of course Serbia has interests IN Kosovo but it wasted its trump card and now is a worse position to play them then before the UDI.
(nik, 2 May 2008 08:41)
Now Kostunica is becoming really ridicoulous..His comment on Lavrov's true interpretation is funny ..but why he doesn't say the truth...
Simply say -I hate EU-I will not sign any SAA-
(Luigi, 2 May 2008 08:35)
Kostunica is right! I mean, he was! Or maybe I am wrong, and he was'nt right then? if the captain has lost orientation completely, like Kostunica obviously did, time has come to hand the ship over to someone who is capable to save the crew and the loading. Mr. Kostunica lost orientation long time ago, that's the reason why the Serbian ship is slingering for years and years now - while others are sailing a straight and successful course. metaphorically spoken, of course : ))

The PM is right, hinde sight is a wonderfull thing, they should have signed long before, but you couldnt and wouldnt hand over mladic and karadzic, had u apologized to the albanians and proved to the world how you were going to inergrate them and offer them a plan for a better future and repatriation it would have stayed with serbia. but you didnt, u want the land but not the people and now kosovo is independant and constitution will be signed. its to late, perhaps serbia and russia can slow some momentum, serbian constituants will be worn down by the pm rhetoric and wonder what about my standard of living, economy what is the government doing to improve the lives of all serbs, serious questions
(sunny, 2 May 2008 03:55)
hmm, eagle, i have to say, i dont mind if ruskies are as you provocatively say key player. but this interview by the pm, present and future pm i might add, has nothing to do with russia. this is just another chance to get into campaign 'no you did it-no you did it-no you did it' kinda conversation between dss and solana's boys. but, russia key player chez nous? dont you worry bout it boy. it's a family affair :)
(smile, 2 May 2008 01:14)
I don't understand all this that Kostunica is talking about. I don't think it says anywhere in the SAA "by signing this agreement you recognise the independence of Kosovo" or something along those lines.
And if Solana turns around to Tadic and says "effectively you have recognised Kosovo's independence because you signed the SAA" Tadic can simply turn around and say "no i haven't recognised Kosovo and i never will and you can't make me"
It's as simple as that.
(Nenad from Melbourne, 2 May 2008 00:20)
Few days ago Kostunica said who dares to sign such a thing as SAA, not all of the suden he says different. All I know is that whatever Russians say Mr. Kostunica will agree with them right away. I bet if Russia recognize Kosovo then Kostunica will say, O my god we were supposed to recognize Kosovo long time ago.
Now I can see who is the key player in serbia and the answer is Russia of course.
(Eagle, 1 May 2008 23:29)
Kostunica is absolutely right to mention that SAA should have been signed prior to Montenegro spliting - but then Solana wanted to use SAA as a wedge then ands is doing so again to further partition Serbia.
Double Standards (DS) party might be deceived but the Serbian electorate is not deceivd - Kosovo je Srbija!!!
(Princip, UK, 1 May 2008 22:27)
Mr Prime Minister, so whats is your point exactly, or are you hedging your bets for My 11th, no it's obvious the majority of Serbs want the SAA/EU.
