Although the signing of the SAA dominates the front pages of the newspapers today, arrested businessman Stanko Subotic is not far behind. ALO—"Agreement with EU signed", the tabloid says of the ceremony in Luxembourg yesterday when Slovenia's Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel and Serbia's Deputy Premier Bozidar Djelic signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA), while President Boris Tadic and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana attended. It follows the SAA news on the front page with a statement from a man deeply opposed to the agreement: "New government for Serbia's survival", outgoing Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, DSS, says in an interview. Serbian police, MUP, reportedly "monitored the movement" of Subotic prior to his arrest at Moscow's Sheremetyevo, and now, "Cane's arrest shakes underworld". GAZETA—The tabloid can't make up its mind as it reports about the SAA signing: "Victory or sell-out?" "Exclusively: Behind the scenes", says that the United States, more specifically "Condoleezza [Rice] threatened Holland" not to block the signing of the agreement with the EU, and in fact, "demanded that it be signed urgently". "War over SAA", looks at the deep political rift in the country in the wake of yesterday's signing of the EU deal. "Cane looks at 12 years in jail!" – the tabloid looks at Cane, and the news related to the cigarette smuggling case.
