In spite of some brave resistance from the Croatian early on, the end result was never in any serious doubt as Jankovic swept to a straight sets victory, 6-1 6-2. In yesterday’s reverse singles, a fully-recovered Ivanovic took on Ozegovic, and after claiming an error-strewn first set 7-5, cruised to the second 6-1 to win the rubber, and wrap up overall victory. With victory assured, Serbia’s two big guns were rested for the day’s final two matches, as Croatia restored a semblance of pride, with Ana Vrljic defeating Teodora Mircic 6-4 7-5, and Vrljic and Kostanic-Tosic claiming a second point for the hosts when Mircic and Jovanovic retired while trailing 1-4 in the first set.
