And how strong are the criminal groups. Well. Talking about russian mafia, or criminal groups of Serbia, I think it is useless. Their fame is universal. There is criminality everywhere, but there is no country in Europe, where gangs and criminality is so strong to even be able to eliminate a premier, like they did in Serbia. And if Afghanistan has no territorial connection, no problem, because drug dealers know very well the offices of the highly corrupted Aeroflot. Apparently you are well educated in drug smuggling (unlike me, I have no interest in that whatsoever)and so you know all the ins and out (maybe you are one yourself). By the way, in your colony a war criminal/terrorist/drugs criminal made it to PM so what does that say about Kosovo? So in Iran, Turkey and Bulgaria there are no corrupt people that are willing to close their eyes? Why bother going through all the trouble. I am sure the drugs maffia can arrange a plane and fly directly from Afghanistan to Pristina (maybe not, that would attrackt to much attention). Well maybe one day Kosovo will have its own airline and since Afghanistan was among the first countries to recognize you it would be nice to award them with a direct flight (on the way to Afghanistan one can take young men that will fight with NATO against the Taliban and one the way back fresh opium that will be processed in Kosovo). By the way, Aeroflot does not fly to Kabul, but I guess you meant that they can use Aeroflot from other countries. I think that Serbia was well aware of Kosovo's practices and how they had organized things and that the Kosovo drugs gangs were a driving force to create problems so eventually nobody would be bothering them (NATO has been quite blind). I am not sure if you guys are living in the 21st century. Talking about economy, beside drugs and some other illegal activities you guys do not have much of an economy anyway (apparently the construction business is doing well, especially religious buildings are in high demand). This will be my last reply to you. Every time you reply you give me so many opportunities to reply and make fun of you and your false arguments. It is too easy and I already lost my interest.

PS. B92, please post my reply as it is now (yes, I make fun but it is not insulting (he is asking for it)).

  3. well, looks like I have to react also regarding the declaration of the Independence of Kosova. DOnt you all (Serbs, and others) see what is going on? I think that you have experienced a brainwash by Milosevic and other nationalist leaders such as Kostunica, but also from Tadic and other leaders who do not want to loose votes.

The Independence of Kosova is totally legal and Serbia should have been the first one to accept it in case that the regime would be democtatic. First of all because of crimes that Serbs have done in Kosova, second of all, because Kosova has never been part of Serbia legaly.

I am glad that the most democratic countries do accept Kosova as state, and I think that there will be a day when Serbia will have to do so also.

serbs should see themselves more directed into the european values and not be victim of Russia's politics with the US.

It is very important to know also that many comments that I read in b92 are very emotional and not based on facts, but the real fact is that Serbia had problems with Slovenia, Croatia, BiH, Kosovo and so on...something is wrong here guys! Cant you see this? I mean all the victims in Bosnia, Kosovo? how about them?

Kosovo deserved the independence because legaly it has not been part of Serbia, but Milosevic overtook it with constitutional coup d'etat in 1989. Remember this?

Then you have to cross Kazachstan, Russia (finally, but relatively small), Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, and Albania. My previous one is the shortest route (and time is money). I am sure that Serbia does everything to prevent drugs smuggling through its territory. I am not spreading lies. You are because you cannot get your facts straight. What true face? Had Albanians declared independence and no one had recognized them they would have done precisely the same thing. They already did it in 2004. Do you think the destruction of churches in Kosovo in 2004 shows the "true face" of Albanians? These are just some angry people (rightfully so), but to say that they represent the "true face" of the Serbs is being just like those Serbs who claim you are all Muslim terrorists, pimps and drug dealers/wholesalers.

Now that Kosovo is independent, when the Serbs accept it, hopefully life will get back to normal for everybody in the Balkans.

I was ecpecting that the Serbs that are in this forum to congratulate Kosovar people for their Independente Coutnry. O well, not a big deal, we can live without that, but it would have been nice.
Before Kosova declared independence many serbs in here were saying that there is no way that Kosova will become a country and so on, now it is a country, and only argument they (serb in here) find to argue about is that who was the first country to recongnise indepenedence, that's funny to hear. Do you guys think that Afghanistan made other countires to recognize Kosova? I didn't think so!
It is too sad to see Serbs in northenrn part of Kosova burning buildings and attacking UN. Now they(serbs) are showing their real true face to the world, good thing is that media from around the world are in Kosova right now.

    Happy Independece.

Do you think that Serbia only is to be blamed for what happend in ex-yugoslavia, I wished you had look last night on BN (Bosnian TV) a very interesting report about the involvment of the US during that war, quiet interesting facts, including the hiring of US Generals by the Croatians to clean the Serbs from some Bosnian and Croatian provinces, a war has always multi faces and at the end wherever the US puts is nose, troubles are starting...like the famous weapons of mass disctruction in Irak, a typical example of the politic of lies followed by the US in so many region of the globe, of course the world became safer, thanks to the Cheneys, Rumpfsfeld and co, not talking from Bush who is just an instrument and will remain as the worst president US ever had!

To Joe, now I understand, you are american! The enormous problems your country is facing back home with social issues, health care, subprime loans, violence and an abyssal deficit sould deserve more attention from the tax payers! But apparently there are still too many people like you happy to contribute your $ to wars all around the world, based on lies from your own administration! I accept your view eventhough I believe it is completely wrong because the result turned out to be negative for all of us, and the world certainly did not become safer.
If you had the chance to travel a bit around the world, just have a look at the US embassies, they all look now like fortresses, guess why...
You see, back in Europe we are a bit more pragmatic, eventhough they are some blind followers of your destructive policy, and the majority of the population is simply tired to have to pay for obvious political mistakes whereas at the same time most of the country in Europe are facing big internal challenges and this applies to Switzerland too.

That is also not true that all 192 states have to recognize Kosovo, there are many companies who lack full recognition in the UN, but one thing they all have is UNSC endorsement, something Kosovo will not achieve.

Take a look, for instance, at Israel, North and South Korea, Cyprus and China, they are not recognized by everyone, but they all have UNSC backing, one of them even has a permanent seat. Kosovo will not be as fortunate as these states.

The same goes for the EU, to even get aspirant-membership to the EU you have to have aprovement off all the EU memberstate's, and it now stands, 6 EU members will NEVER recognize kosovo the conclusion can only be that Kosovo will never be an part of the EU.

89 countries? There are less than 10 that have and there are maybe 2-3 times more that say they will. The rest either is neutral, against or weighing their options (waiting for an EU or UN resolution on the matter).

And one more thing, the general assembly may vote in favour of Kosovo joining (due to majority vote), but the security council needs to endorse it, and there are two veto holders who are against independence, so that means that even if the whole world wants Kosovo in the UN, the UNSC needs to endorse that, and one veto will close it.

It was, from the beginning, the price Kosovo had to pay by pushing for UDI.

A quick look at a world map show that in order to go from Afghanistan to Kosovo (and Albania and from there to Italy and the rest of Europe) one has to travel through Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria and FYR of Macedonia. I am sure that the writer of the article I am commenting on was referring to Serbia. Not this time. It is interesting that Europe allows Muslim countries to provide the drugs that destroy their children and their future. Well, Europe is also addicted to Middle East oil. This will haunt Europe for many generations and the only ones that benefit are the US and oil and drugs producing countries.

Wouldn't you rather have your tax money going into, for example, free medical insurance for US children and other services that George Bush vetoed (despite the majority vote of the senate) in order to fund his pointless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, rather than pumping them into some country in Europe? They are now independent, they have enough recognition to function, they must now prove to the world that they can be independent and not be a dependent charity case!

Nobody helped any Eastern European countries (including your country, Hungary, and mine, Poland) to build up their infrastructure after it was almost completely annihilated during the Second World War, we were independent and we did it ourselves, Kosovo must also forge its own future, and your tax money should be going into improving the quality of life in your country, not someone else's.

Its the CIA who instructed the KLA to have its people walk towards the borders and create that image for TV for justification and later use for 'Belgrade can no longer rule Kosovo due to its ethnic cleansing'. Why don't they talk about how you guys abused your powers in the 80's? Poisoning Serb wells, raping girls and threatening Serb children??? The Republic of Serbia has always been in Europe and so was the Province of Kosovo (still is). If you mean by "Welcome to Europe" welcome to the EU then you are telling them a lie and that is not a nice thing to say to people who will experience some nasty hangover soon and who will realize they have been used despite certain illegal recognitions. Kosovo will only be a part of the EU if Serbia will join, but after yesterday I estimate that chance to be close to zero. On the other hand, the EU can betray its own rules and bypass countries that in the eyes of certain more powerful countries are not real equal members. The Colony of Kosovo is the appropriate name for the time being and the EU has lost an enourmous deal of credibility the past few weeks and days. The only thing that really bothers me is that we have to pay for all this nonsense while most countries have enough problems of their own that have to be dealt with.

If I were a Serb, I would be appalled if the Serb government spent my tax dollars in the Kosovo black hole. So I would be celebrating that it has finally left.
If I lived in a EU country or if I were American I would also be appalled if I saw my hard earned tax money spent away in Kosovo, and making international law and order a collateral damage of this awful policy.
I understand your feelings, but at the end this would be like having an ugly, high spending girlfriend leaving you for your worst enemy. You would grieve for some time, but you would laugh at the end, or better yet, you would not care one bit.
This has happened before. Take the loss of Cuba by Spain. Cuba was loved by Spaniards and they still talk about it with a heavy heart and sadness. They know that Cuba was stolen from them, with the same ugly tricks that the US is pulling with Kosovo. But they don’t care now, since their revenge came when the Americans were thrown out of Cuba by the same people they supposedly liberated.
So look at the future Serbia, I truly believe it is a bright one.

Australia??? Where did that story come from? Do you think the Prime minister and his government woke up at 3am to recognise Kosovo? Haha, what a joke!

Afghanistan was the first to recognise Kosovo and it has been confirmed by other media. This puppet show is getting interesting.

Seems like the world is split. The new precedent is starting!

  44. Once again the US and the EU are interfering where they are not wanted. Sure there were Serb atrocities but we never hear about Albanian atrocities against their own, Serbs, Goran and Roma minorities. Why? - Because it did not and does not suit the US and their puppy dog followers. Might we expect to see California delare UDI after all the Latinos are out breeding WASP type Americans. Will the UK government agree to a similar state for Wales or Scotland (some might hope so)? To allow UDI without a UN resolution flies in the face of International law. Do not believe for one moment that the Albanians will protect Serb culture and heritage – just look at what happened in March 2004 – Serb Churches destroyed, Serb Villages destroyed and the Orthodox Cemetery in South Mitrovica desecrated beyond belief. Two wrongs have never made a right. I am ashamed to be British.

  45. I am very amused about this childish cheering...

with UNSC 1244 in full force, everything is possible.

with yesterday´s socalled declaration the Albanians have changed from citizens of the Republic of Serbia to foreign occupiers.

they should keep that in mind, since it could be that one day this means they are a legitimate target of liberation measures of the rightful sovereign - Serbia.

and Serbia will be ready that´s something you can count on. :)

Albanians suffered, Serbs too and they can't live together anymore, but such unilateral independence denies Serbs rights on Kosovo. Serbs don't have to pay anymore what Milosevic did and another time they paid for it with this independence. Nationalism is a disease whatever the country !

Everyone who has a little common sense and understand a bit the mechanism can only be revolted about such decision, but the history always remember and maybe one day you guys down there will realize that this pseudo liberty had a too high price to pay. If I have read well one of your fierest K defender of indenpendance mentionned yesterday "but what do we get in this deal, nothing, not even the right to change things withoug oncle sam's approval and of course the european sheeps" this is the reality, but maybe that's what you all want guys, easy $, it has been like this for 10 years, no reason to stop!!

  49. It pretty much turned out the way everyone predicted it.

There must be a buzz like hell in Kosovo, I watched the declaration and some scenes of the party afterwards.

So to recap, as far as I know, here is the recognition list:

Afghanistan, Albania, France, Italy, Taiwan, Turkey, Turkish Cyprus (like anyone cares), United Kingdom and United States of America.

This is the list of those that aim to recognize Kosovo over the next two days:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Pakistan, Panama, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Sweden and Switzerland.

The list of countries that won't recognize Kosovo declaration:

Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

Others either will wait for EU or UN approval beforehand, others haven't decided yet.

So there it is, Kosovo has been recognized by enough states to function and trade normally, but it will not be able to join OECD, UN, Council of Europe and EU due to vetoes from the respective countries involved who will not recognize independence, though it can join the IMF.

It will probably end up nestling alongside countries such as Taiwan, Sahrawi Arab Republic, Israel and Palestine in terms of the amount of countries that recognize it.

But the bottom line for me was seeing how happy the Kosovars were. At last I can say I understand how deeply they wanted it, it was moving.

On the other hand, what was also moving was the anger of the Serbs from Serbia, the sadness and fear of the Kosovo Serbs, I can say this will not end so quickly. Serbia will not give up on Kosovo.

Let's just hope that the tension simmers and that stability will come to all peoples of the Balkans!

Let's also hope that there will indeed be no precedent with regards to Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Somaliland South Ossetia and Transnistria. Let's hope the "sui generis" holds water.

Whoa, I am impressed. My brother spent one year there (full 2006) as Sergeant with Romanian Army, and based on his stories, Kosovo is 100 times better!

However, K/Albanians, be aware: being recognized by Hamid Karzai govt. (which cannot exist without US support) may put you on collision course with Mollah Omar and his good friend Osama bin Laden. It would be difficult to reject accusations of being 'the friends of the Great Satan', especially taking into consideration the general lack of appetite for Islam I have witnessed among K/Albanians while working in Kosovo with OSCE for three years :)

But of course, they are all patriots, pure patriots, but hang on, for the last 10 years if I remember well, Serbia has nothing to say down there, so those fantastic patriots had all the time to invest in their homeland, where is the result??

Infact, the Kosovo 'government' has much more recognition as part of UNMIK so infact its world would be much smaller.

So any company from a country not recognizing Kosovo as a Serbian province
will not legally be able to do business.

In a few weeks, when the false euphoria wears off, the Albanians will see they have been deceived again.

Afghanistan knows how bad it is ti be ruled under tyranny because they were under tyranny of Russia and then of Taliban but now they are in process of being a democratic country.
IT is really sad and shame that some people here make fun of Afghanistan, a country that has suffered so much. This shows what kind of people are the ones here that oppose Kosova's Independence.
Also, USA,France,Germany,England,Italy,Belgium, Turkey, Albania, Poland,Hungary and many more are countries that recognized us or in process of recognizing us within the next hours.

Afghanistan has not choice but to endorse the illegal declaration of Kosovo, they are a protectorate of the US, the same as Kosovo.

To the editors of B-92, Hasim Thaci and Agim Ceku and who were members of the terrorist organizations of the KLA and UCK .

The United States listed these organizations on the terrorist watch list. As such, no amount of censorship from B-92 can hide the fact that Kosovo is a terrorist state run by terrorist leaders who murdered Serbian, Albanian and Roma civilians.

As for the French, I think it is about time Serbia reappraised its historic “friendship” with France. The French were once allies, but they are now Serbia’s enemies.

Paris Street (next to Kalemegdan) should be renamed, as should France Street (Francuska).
