Ministry of Health gets WHO award

The campaign produced by the Serbian Committee for Smoking Prevention of the Ministry of Health, was launched on National No Tobacco Day, January 31, 2007, the government web site reported.

“Its compelling, shocking imagery forcefully illustrates that smoking affects the health of many beyond the smoker. The campaign, on billboards throughout the country and public service announcements on national television, has provoked strong reactions,” according to WHO.

“The pro-smoking lobby has reacted by producing articles in newspapers opposing the scientific evidence about the harmful effects of environmental tobacco smoke – a clear sign that the campaign has a strong message,” the organization said.

The Ministry of Health thanked the creators, promoters and friends of the campaign as well all those who have been supportive of the anti-smoking action.
