Democrat Oliver Dulić elected Speaker

The Serbian Parliament has elected Oliver Dulić of the Democratic Party (DS) to be its new Speaker Wednesday.

Democrat Oliver Dulić elected Speaker

In all 98 parliament members from the Serb Radical Party (SRS), Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) voted against, while Riza Halimi, from the Coalition of Preševo Valley Albanians’, and Oliver Dulić himself abstained from vote.

Dulić was the only candidate for theSpeaker, as the post went to the Democrats according to the government deal.

The newly-elected Speaker called on all lawmakers to co-operate so as to promote the work of the Parliament and build up the dignity of the institution.

After he assumed his post, Dulić thanked the assembly for the support and pledged he would not put an end to live television broadcasting of the sessions, adding that the Serbian citizens had the right to be properly informed about the highest legislative body’s work.
