New Serbian government sworn in

Following the lawmakers' approval, members of the government took an oath of office. However, the election was preceded by a lengthy heated debate sparked off by an information that police was conducting a search for war crime fugitive Ratko Mladić in downtown Belgrade.

The ministry of interior issued a brief statement saying that the War Crimes Trial Chamber and the Belgrade District Court ordered a search of a suspected Ratko Mladić’s hideout in Deligradska Street in downtown Belgrade. The search was conducted by military police unit but yielded no results.

By voting in the new government, the Parliament ended its three month long inaugural session. Caucus chiefs met today to discuss the upcoming tasks of the Parliament.

They are expected to agree on the Parliament’s timetable, schedule the next session and nominate new speaker and three vice speakers.

The Democratic Party (DS) proposed Oliver Dulić for the speaker post, according to the DS-DSS-G17 Plus cabinet deal that put the post into DS hands.

In the meantime, DS deputy Nada Kulundžija told Tanjug agency that she would be new DS caucus chief instead of Dušan Petrović who was appointed as defense minister in the new government.
