“Bankruptcy mafia” trial continues

Bankruptcy mafia members are accused of embezzling tens of millions of euros, causing damage to the state economy.

Of the total 35 accused persons, 14 accused remain in detention, while 18 of the accused organize their defense outside of custody.

The first part of the trial began January 22 when Kljajević presented his defense rejecting all points of the indictment. He accused G17 and DSS (Democratic Party of Serbia) officials to have caused his politically motivated arrest. Kljajević denied having influenced the appointment of bankruptcy judges and affected the decisions in regard to the sale of bankrupt companies’ assets. He also rebuffed bribery accusations.
