Croatia to escort Storm suspects back to Hague
Ivan Čermak will then have the opportunity to make a statement about the alleged violations of the terms of his provisional release at the status conference scheduled for February 9.After it received notice earlier this year about possible violations of the terms of provisional release by General Čermak, the Trial Chamber demanded additional information about the situation from Croatia, as well as about the measures taken by the authorities to ensure that the accused comply with the terms set by the Appeals Chamber in July 2005, restricting their movement before the start of the trial.
Since Croatia failed to provide the requested information, the Chamber suspended its decision granting the two provisional release pending trial and set a date for a status conference where the accused Čermak will be invited to explain his actions.
The status conference has been scheduled for Friday, February 9. This will be the first time that all three accused – generals Gotovina, Čermak and Markač – appear in the courtroom together. Their trial has been scheduled to start on May 5, 2007.
