According to the US, the war in Ukraine has killed and wounded tens of thousands of soldiers on both sides. Hundreds of thousands of Russian troops have been sent to fight in Ukraine, including more than 300.000 reservists called up as part of the mobilization Putin announced in September.

"Ahead of Mother's Day, which is celebrated in Russia in the last week of November, Vladimir Putin will meet with the mothers of soldiers participating in a special military operation. Putin will also meet with the mothers of reservists who have been called up to fight, as well as with the mothers of professional soldiers", says the Kremlin statement.

Data on fallen soldiers

Ukraine does not publish its military losses.

Russia last publicly announced its losses on September 21, when Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said 5.937 Russian soldiers had died. But that number is far lower than international estimates.

The top American general estimated on November 9 that Russia and Ukraine have more than 100.000 soldiers killed or wounded.
