Vucic: Safe future of our children requires friends

The president said that "regardless of the growing strength of China and Russia, the enormous strength of America, we must understand that without the Germans and the French, but also the Italians and other Europeans, we will not be able to solve any of our problems in the future."

His message is that "the sooner we start to, together with Europe, but also with other world powers and with each other, with cold and clear heads, work on resolving rather than stoking up problems, the sooner we will become a European reality and present, and not just its long forgotten myth."

"It's important to become a part of the EU, but what's more important is to survive and secure a safe future for our children, regardless of all the formal frameworks in which we will be moving. None of us can do it alone, so we need friends," Vucic emphasized.

Recalling his visit to Beijing, the Serbian president noted that China is the world's leading force in the field of artificial intelligence, industrial robotics, and that Europe can hardly reduce its lag behind in modern technologies compared to the Asian giant - and believes that the positioning of Serbia as a reliable partner and a sincere friend of China is essential for the future of the country. At the same time, he notes that we "cannot make the mistake of underestimating the importance and role of Europe."

"Beijing brought us better news that we had hoped for, but preparations for Berlin were difficult, and expectations low," he writes.

Vucic pointed out that there are opportunities that should not be missed, such as the meeting in Berlin earlier in the week - "which is the point of deciding whether next year will pass in gigabytes or in myths - fast, or terribly slow, in development, or in quarrels and divisions, in understanding, or confusion."

"A part of the Balkans, apparently, did not understand it. Zvizdic, Haradinaj, Thaci have underestimated Europe, Merkel and Macron, in a way that has not been done since the famous myth that features that tiny girl who is seized and raped by Zeus," the president said, in apparent reference to the Greek myth of Europa.

He also said that Europe has "grown out of the myth and has long since moved away from the Balkans where the myth originated."

"That's why this joint attempt, which Merkel and Macron have launched, to connect these two spaces through dialogue, understanding and compromise, is so important," Vucic said.

He added Haradinaj, Thaci and Denis Zvizdic (representing Bosnia-Herzegovina) instead of employing a rational approach, showed an emotion that was directed towards Serbia as "the usual suspect."

"Our response going forward must be unequivocal. A complex and unique Serbian approach in building confidence toward neighbors, as well strengthening our position first and foremost economic, and closer political and cultural connections while preserving our language and Cyrillic script," said Vucic.

The president also wrote that the insistence of Haradinaj and Thaci on recognition of Kosovo, and refusing to even think about revoking "the mindless taxes" represented behavior "at the level of a stadium rather than politics, where somebody is trying to change the result on the scoreboard by shouting."

Vucic also obserged that "the biggest European politicians have experienced the smallest European politicians, especially those from Pristina, acting towards them with contempt and from the position of some imaginary power" - and stressed that Serbia "did not take part in that."
