Fifth attempt to elect Kosovo Assembly speaker fails

B92's reporters said on Friday that the constitutive session was being attended by all parliamentary parties, including the deputies from the Serb (Srpska) List.

According to Kosovo's Constitution, only the PAN coalition, which has won the most votes in the early election held in June, can put forward a candidate for speaker.

The second-placed Self-Determination - which received the most votes as a single party - has suggested to the PAN coalition to give up on the idea to elect Kadri Veseli to this position.

Veseli on Friday failed for the fifth time, and Self-Determination is now suggesting that the coalition - whose candidate for prime minister is Ramush Haradinaj - should propose another candidate for speaker, "one who will be supported."
