According to the minister, the raids have been carried out in cooperation with relevant prosecutions, the BIA agency, the Tax Administration, "and other state organs."

"In the past five days, members of the MUP continued their activities in combating general criminality throughout the territory of the whole of Serbia. By working around the clock, the police removed from the streets a considerable quantity of weapons. During this action, 66 rifles - of which two automatic - 44 pistols - of which two automatic - six hand grenades, several kilograms of explosives and several thousands ammunition pieces have been seized," Stefanovic said.

He pointed out that "a complete illegal workshop for production of firearms and ammunition" was found in the territory of the municipality of Zajecar, in eastern Serbia.

"In the past period, the police also worked intensively to arrest narco dealers, who in this action also had in their possession more than 27 kilograms of narcotics of all kinds. With their arrest, the narcotics have been removed from the streets, and our children have been saved" - said the minister.

According to Stefanovic, the operation sent a clear message that as far as police are concerned, "nobody (suspected of a crime) is untouchable and protected."

Among those arrested today are six police officers from New Belgrade, who are suspected of abuse of official position related to vehicle registration, the MUP said in a statement later in the day.

On July 20, the police announced that 213 suspects had been arrested as Operation Ares continued. Earlier in the week, the same campaign resulted in the arrest of 360 persons.
