Serbia to receive Russian warplanes, tanks "by end of year"

Beside the six MiG-29s, Russia will deliver 30 T-72s tanks and 30 BRDM-2 armored reconnaissance vehicles to Belgrade as part of the same military aid package, Shugaev announced.

"The completion of MiG-29 aircraft deliveries to the Republic of Serbia is planned by the end of 2017," he told reporters, according to Sputnik.

This official revealed earlier in the day that Russia and Serbia are discussing deliveries of "S-300 air defense system battalions."

Russia was to deliver the MiGs in May of this year. According recent to media reports, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Serbian Armed Forces would have the warplanes at their disposal "by mid-July at the latest" - after a previous delivery date was delayed.

Serbian officials have also assured that the jets would arrive "very soon."

The MiG-29 fighters are currently in service in 29 countries across the world, according to Sputnik.
